CHURCHES:NEW HOPE
New Hope Church, near Mercer, was organized on September 30, 1979, at the Mercer Area Community Center, in Mercer. There were five charter members, viz., Milburn Cooper, Janice F. McCurdy, Paula Winkle, Erline Parnell, and Chloe Boyle. The presbytery was composed of Elders Daily Hite, Tom Pitney, Clarence Davis, W. G. Hall, David Smith, Harry Burns Jr., and Jack Allen, and Deacons Ted Ray, Eugene Johnson, and Nick Herald. These brethren had met for some time previous as an arm of the Oakdale Church, of Akron, Ohio, usually at the home of Paula Winkle in Adamsville, Pa., or at the Helen Black Miller Chapel, in Mercer, Pa.
