CHURCHES:FAIRFIELD (FAIRFIELD)
The First Baptist Church of Fairfield was organized in 1834, by Elder James Carpenter, who continued to serve them. The church continued in peace for two years, but then had some trouble with a minority of the members, who favored the modern mission system. At length the majority of the church resolved to withdraw the hand of fellowship from the Raisin River Association, and from the members that were in fellowship with said Association. The church became part of the Michigan Old School Baptist Conference in August 1839, jointly with the Canton Church in Wayne County.
