LONE PILGRIM (LARGO) (1887)

Lone Pilgrim Church was organized on Saturday, July 9, 1887. Early names of members included J. D. McMullen, Sarah McMullen, W. A. O'Quinn, H. B. Humphries, L. L. Blanton, Rufus Smith, Nancy Savis, Sister M. J. Blanton, Laura Taylor, Thomas Taylor, Sarah Humphries, J. L. Pritchard, Sister M. M. Taylor, F. L. Taylor, Ida Taylor, James J. Jackson, Eugenia Jackson, Sister N. M. Lohmeyer, John S. Jackson, and Sister E. J. Jackson. The presbytery was composed of Elders T. S. Evers, T. J. McMullen, and Deacon C. T. Simmons. Elder Evers was called the first pator. He was followed by Elder J. D. McMullen, E. C. Adair, Joe Humphries, and others. Two acres of land was donated for the first church and a cemetery, by James J. Jackson and wife. In about 1914 Lone Pilgrim Church bought a church building and lot on 4th Avenue and 6th Street, in Largo. In the late 1940's J. A. Walshington and wife donated several lots, and the members built a new church at the corner of 6th Avenue and 6th Street.
