Hopewell Church was constituted at Matthews School house in Jones County, on Saturday before the fifth Sunday in September 1901, with the following members, viz., J. C. Ishee, M. V. Hill, S. E. Grice, V. S. Hollingsworth, M. F. Hill, M. E. Ishee, Kizzie Wilborn, Eliza Grice, and S. M. Wilborn. Elders J. J. Mason, L. F. Easley, S. R. Scott, and A. B. Amerson formed the presbytery.
