Lone Star Church was organized on Saturday before the fourth Sunday in May 1884, near Denison at Lone Star Schoolhouse, in Grayson County, by Elders J. L. Hughes, J. W. Ray and Deacon A. L. Burleson, with the following members: Elder T.N. Cutler and wife, A. Cutler, W. A. Cox and wife, Maggie Cox, T. O. Burleson, S. Burleson, H. G. Hurst and wife, Phoebe Hurst. Pastors included Dr. (Elder). T. J. Cutler, J. G. Webb, Henry G. Ball, and Owen Rushing. Clerks included W. H. Ledbetter, W. J. Scoggins, Henry Scoggins, and Johnnie Scoggins. The church was a member of the Pilot Grove Association. This was the home church of Elders J. G. Webb, T. L. Webb Sr., R. A. Biggs, J. A. Mathis and W. F. Spencer. The church numbered 135 members at one time. Long-time Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Sam Rayburn, united with this church in his old age, and was baptized by Elder H. G. Ball.
