Mars Hill Church was organized February 23, 1839, with eleven charter members, viz., Joshua Doughtry, James Floyd, W. B. Daniels, Frances Holloway, Andelana Doughtry, Martha Floyd, Sebra Kean, Nancy Daniels, Elizabeth Page, Lucy Lewis, and Rachel Page. The presbytery was composed of Elder T. W. Edwards and Brother A. McGinty.
