A Tribute to Elder John Shackelford
The following resolution of respect appears in the 1828 minutes of
the Licking Association of Kentucky: "The last of the Lord's
prisoners, West of the Mountains, is no more - ELDER JOHN
SHACKELFORD, a venerable minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ for
more than fifty years, who was imprisoned in Virginia, for
preaching Christ and him crucified; Departed this life on the 21st
day of August last. "He rests from his labours and his works do
follow him," whose last words were, "Come Lord Jesus, come
quickly."
