PRINCE WILLIAM (1812)

Prince William Church, in the Pond Town section near Brunson, S.C., was organized June 20, 1812. There were 30 brethren in the original constitution of the church, coming from Coosawhatchie Baptist Church (now Beach Branch church). For 170 years (1982) this old church has continued regular services. In all of those years there have been only eight pastors: Elder John Youmans (1812-1831), 19 years; Elder J. G. Bowers (1831-1852), 21 years; no pastor from 1852-1855; Elder W. F. Hogarth (1855-1895), 40 years; Elder A. J. Harrison (1895-1914), 19 years; Elder J. H. Rivers (1914-1915), 1 year; Elder J. W. Anderson (1915-1953), 38 years; Elder W. H. Anderson (1953-1972), 19 years; Elder Charles P. Crapse (1972 to present - 1982). The church records indicate 20 brothers who have been ordained as deacons during these 170 years. They are David Rivers, Sr., William Bowers, George Rivers, Phillip Terry, David Rivers Jr., Martin Terry, John Bowers, R. N. Terry, James D. Rivers, C. A. Bowers, Martin Rivers, J. T. Bowers, W. F. Harrison, H. K. Brown, A. W. Harrison, W. P. Harrison, Julius Brown, Fred Jarrell, Clyde Jarrell and R. A. Belger.

This is the oldest Baptist church in Hampton county with the original name and organization. It was named Prince William Church after the parish in which it was located.

BLACK CREEK (HAMPTON) (1828)

Black Creek Church was organized June 20, 1828. Those who have served as pastor include Elders J. G. Bowers, John Youmans, J. T. Sweet, W. F. Hogarth, A. J. Harrison, J. M. Thomas, H. W. Smith, J. W. Anderson, W. H. Anderson, and others.

SANDY DRAIN CHURCH (1914)

Sandy Drain Church, located approximately nine miles south of Hampton, on U. S. 601, was constituted October 10, 1914. Elder H. W. Smith was the first pastor. The following have also served as pastor: Elder S. N. Crapse (1942-1944); Elder Philip Terry (1944-1948); Elder J. W. Anderson (1948-1949); Elder S. S. Crapse (1949 until his death). On July 10, 1977, Elder Lee Nix was ordained and called to serve as pastor.

LITTLE CREEK (1961)

In 1961, twelve members from Black Creek Church began holding services in different homes in the Hampton, S.C., area. From these meetings came Little Creek Primitive Baptist Church. The building was constructed in 1973-1974, and on December 29, 1974, a dedication service was held. Elder Charles P. Crapse was called as pastor in June 1974. Sister Louise Crapse serves as clerk. Deacons are Brother Walter Shipes and Brother John Crapse. Little Creek church is located on U. S. 601 about seven miles southeast of Hampton., S.C.

HAMPTON (1967)

Constituted on March 19, 1967, with nine members. Elder C. J. DeLoach and Elder Herman W. Jordan formed the presbytery. Elder Jordan served the church until 1975, and Elder DeLoach has served since that time (this was written in 1982). The present deacons are Brother Clyde Jarrell and Brother H. W. Gooding. Brother Gooding also serves as clerk. The church is located one mile north of Hampton, on Country Club Road.
