CHURCHES:

ROCK CREEK (1854)

The Rock Creek Primitive Baptist Church located east of Denver MO dates back to 1852, at which time, church was held in the Miller School House, (two miles south of Denver) by Elder Elmon Terry. Meetings were held in the Miller School House for about five years, then moved to the Neiger School which was more convenient. August 3rd, 1854 Elder Elmon Terry, with the help of others, organized the church. The charter members were David Hoblet, Lemual Miller, Edward Jones, Elizabeth Brady, and Mary Miller. In 1890, Billie Chapman donated an acre of ground for the site of the construction of the present church. Members of the congregation donated money for the purchase of lumber and also donated their time to assist the one hired carpenter in building the church. In 1890 the first services were held in the new building. The pulpit and later the pews to replace the benches were made by William Valentine Findley. The outside shutters were made by Robert Lundy.
