Walnut Cove Church was organized on January 22, 1916. The presbytery was composed of Elders A. L. Moore, E. M. Barnard, A. B. Philpot, J. A. Ashburn, and J. R. Wilson, and Deacons C. R. Duggins, J. W. Moorefield, and J. W. Huchins. The charter members were M. E. Simmons, Aderline Lankford (from North View church), Elder S. A. Reid, Elder J. A. Fagg and Mattie Fagg (from Piney Grove church), J. R. Payne, E. E. Payne, and Lou Murphy (from Flat Shoals church), Nannie Reid (from Clear Springs church), J. G. H. Mitchell (from Wilson church), and Martha C. Fulp (from Pine Ridge church).
Elder J. A. Fagg was chosen as pastor, and Elder S. R. Reid as clerk. Other pastors who have served are Elders Wesley W. Fagg, F. R. Moore, Jesse Higgins, and Milton Gunter.
