Church and Family History Research Assistance for St. Clair County, Missouri

CHURCHES:

GOSHEN (1873)

Goshen Church was organized at the Fairview Schoolhouse in April 1873. Elder P. Stark was chosen moderator and W. P. Lindsey, clerk. Charter members included Elder P. Stark, Sarah Stark, Elder James A. Stark, Matilda Stark, J. A. Simes, Caroline M. Simes, David Henson, W. P. Lindsey, and Elizabeth Kelley.

Meetings were held in members homes and later in public buildings including several local schools, until 1901, when the present building was erected.

In 1873, Goshen Church united with the Ozark Association. In 1889, the church decided to join the Panther Creek Association for the sake of convenience. It appears, however, that the church actually remained in the Ozark Association. Then, in 1898, the church affiliated with the Mt. Zion Association.

Pastors included Elders Pleasant Stark, James A. Stark, Asa Howard, J. A. Souther, B. F. Querry, William T. Guest, Wright Collins, William R. Stout, Thomas Jackson, J. H. Moore, R. M. Ogle, J. F. Sutton, J. F. Barnes, and H. W. Newton, up to the year 1906.
