CHURCHES:

ELK CREEK (1794)

Elk Creek Church was organized with ten members, on April 27, 1794. The church was first called Buck Creek, then Buck & Elk, and finally Elk Creek. The church first joined Salem Association, but in 1803, with 23 other churches, formed the Long Run Association. In 1837 Elk Creek Church declared non-fellowship with "conventions, theological seminaries and societies that give membership for money." The next year the church withdrew from the Long Run Association for the same reason. The church then united with many other churches in organizing the Otter Creek Association, in October 1839.
