CHURCHES:

SMITH'S CREEK (NEW MARKET)(1774)

Smith's Creek Church was set off as a separate church by members dismissed from Mill Creek Church of Page County. The Baptist Register by Asplund, for 1790, shows Smith's Creek Church as being located in Shenandoah County, and that it was a member of the Culpeper Association at that time. The Register also indicates it was organized in 1774, so it had probably been a member of the Ketocton Association before uniting with the Culpeper Association). Elder Anderson Moffet was the pastor in 1790.

Smith's Creek Church was listed as a member of the Ebenezer Association, in the 1880's and 1890's. However, the church divided over the Means question, and a majority went off with Elder J. B. McInturff. A minority of the Church continued to exist and meet with Elder R. T. Strickler as pastor, and was recognized as the church in order by the Ebenezer Association.
