CHURCHES:

PROVIDENCE

PILOT MOUNTAIN (SEE ALSO BOONE COUNTY)

Pilot Mountain Church was organized on the third Saturday in June 1877, with twenty charter members. The presbytery was composed of Elders Able Still, Joshua Reeves, and Nicholas Gooch. The church joined the Buffalo Association.

Elder Able Still was the first pastor. He was followed by Elder George Davis, Elder Casey, T. A. Parsley, F. M. Russel, and Ben Kimbrough.

Early meetings were held in a log building near Baker Springs. Later the meetings were held at a place called Carman; then they were moved to the Baker Springs school house. Meetings were held for several years in the homes of the members. Finally the church built a meeting house, of concrete blocks, at the Osham Cemetery, two miles east of St. Joe. When the church house was completed a service was held with Elders Elmer Calton and Will Whitwell preaching.
