SARDIS (STOKESDALE) (1801)
Sardis Church was organized March 25, 1801, at the home of Brother Benjamin Fewell, with eight charter members, viz., Benjamin Fewell, Zechariah Wall, Robert Wall, Ann Wall, Ann Fewell, Fanny Wall, Elizabeth Baughn, and Susan Wall. The presbytery was composed of Elders Joseph Anthony and William Davis.
The records for the first twenty years were destroyed. Names of pastors included Elders John Wilson (1825), Henry Tatum (1830), G. W. McNeally (1850), J. M. Harris (1875), P. W. Willard (1896).
