CHURCHES:

PLATTE RIVER (1881)

Platte River Church was organized in the vicinity of Guilford, on the fifth Saturday in October, 1881, with six charter members, viz., R. L. Cook, Mary Cook, W. J. Simmons, Sarah Simmons, John P. Keller, and Telitha C. Keller. The presbytery was composed of Elders P. J. Burruss (Unity Church), Deacon S. F. Guthrie, and Bro. M. J. Moffitt (Three Forks of Nodaway Church), Bro. F. Wyatt (Nodaway Church), and Elder R. M. Thomas (Hope Church). Elder R. M. Simmons was chosen the first pastor.

MARYVILLE (1882)

Maryville Church was organized at the home of Elder James M. True, in Maryville, on September 16, 1882, a previous meeting having been held a month earlier to consider the matter. The charter members were Elder James M. True, Nancy B. True, Moses Hahn, Mary Hahn, Lillie A. Hayes, and Sarah Storm. The presbytery was composed of Elders W. J. Pollard, John M. Brown, Brethren Thomas Shearer and William Shearer, Bro. John Keller, and Bro. John W. Magee. Elder James M. True was elected as pastor. Three other members, Jefferson L. Roberts, Martha Jane Roberts, and Sarah Adcock, were received by letter the same day.

WEST UNION (1884)

West Union Church was originally established as an arm of Union Church, in Greene County, Indiana, in March 1883, for the benefit of some of the members who were now living near and holding worship services in the Champaign School house in Nodaway Co., Missouri. Elder R. A. Oliphant was chosen pastor of the arm at its first session in April 1883. The following members were dismissed to organize a separate church, in May 1884, viz., Elder R. A. Oliphant, Levi Mitchell, J. W. Furguson, John A. Sparks, J. M. King, Bennett Burch, Mary E. Oliphant, Bell Inman, Eliza E. Ferguson, Sarah Simpson, Sara E. Mitchell, Lyddia King, Elizabeth Oliphant, Emily Burch, Nancy J. Acuff, and S. E. Sparks.
