Mt. Tabor Church was organized November 9, 1889, near Hurdland, with fourteen charter members, viz., John VanSickle, James R. Musgrove, Sarah E. Musgrove, Mary A. Sparks, Malinda Pinkston, John R. VanSickle, Abigail VanSickle, Andrew J. Pinkston, Lucy M. Pinkston, John W. Sparks, William W. VanSickle, Susanna VanSickle, Mary Eliza VanSickle, and Cassey Dabney. The church had met as an arm of Mt. Salem Church, Macon County, for a few years before this.

Elder J. E. Goodson, Jr., was their first pastor, and served them faithfully until his death in 1890. Elder George E. Edwards was then chosen, and served about three years. Elder James W. Bradley then served for nine years. In 1902 Elder Edwards was again called, and served until his death in 1933. During the year 1933, Elder J. Bryan Adair regularly visited the church. Elder Clyde Johnson was chosen in January 1934.
