CHURCHES:
ANTIOCH (1833)
Antioch Church was organized in 1833, at the house of Washington Young, on North Prairie, four miles west of Cross Timbers. It was the first church of any denomination in Hickory County. The presbytery was composed of Elders James Richardson and Elijah Williams. The charter members were James Dawson, John Potter, Daniel Lake, James Richardson, Elizabeth Lake, Nancy Young, Ann Foster, Nancy Holloway, and Nellie Dawson. It was kept up until the time of the Civil War, at which time nearly all the churches then in the county were closed, and very few of them ever resumed.
