Church and Family History Research Assistance for Greenbrier County, West Virginia

CHURCHES:

GREENBRIER (ALDERSON)(1781)

Greenbrier Church was organized on November 24, 1781, with twelve charter members, all of whom were considered to be an arm of Smith and Lynville's Creek Church in Rockingham Co., Virginia. Elder John Alderson Jr. constituted the new church.

BIG LEVELS (LEWISBURG)

KANAWHA (PRATT)(1793)

The Old Kanawha Baptist Church was organized in July 1793 with 12 charter members by Elder John Alderson. Elder James Johnstone became the first pastor.

MT. ZION (RONCEVERTE)(1870)

Mt. Zion Church, near Ronceverte, was organized on October 15, 1870, by a presbytery of Elders John C. Hubbard, Granville Houchins, and Woodsin R. Cummins. There were ten charter members, who had been an arm of Indian Creek Church.

SHILOH (1871)

Shiloh Church was organized on October 15, 1871, with eighteen charter members. The presbytery was composed of Elder W. C. Cummins, Granville Houchins, and others.

PILGRIM'S REST (FRANKFORD)(1903)

Pilgrim's Rest Church, near Frankford, was organized in April 1903, as an arm of Mt. Zion Church at Ronceverte. The presbytery was composed of Elders Z. T. Mitchell, Charles Massey, and C. P. Ballard. There were eleven charter members.
