PILGRIM'S REST
Pilgrim's Rest Church, in the New River Association, was organized November 6, 1857, with fifteen charter members, viz., Elder J. W. Conner, Abram Honaker, John Nunn, Nancy Howard, Elizabeth Lawson, Elizabeth Puckett, Charity Nunn, Rebecca Moore, Stephen Odell, John Calfee, Jane Calfee, Sally Honaker, Martha Allison, Polly Odell, and Lucinda Hill. The presbytery was composed of Elders J. W. Conner, Armstead Ashworth, Benjamin Bird, A. D. Rakes, and Levi Bodenhamer.
Elder J. W. Conner served as pastor and moderator until his death in September 1861. Elder Isaac Webb was chosen moderator in July 1868. He was followed by Elder J. C. Hurst, in November 1903; Elder Asa Harris, in May 1908, until his death in September 1919; Elder J. D. Vass until July 1945; Elder G. S. Williams, until his death in March 1957; Elder Robert L. Hill, until his death in June 1984; Elder R. P. Hall in July 1984. Elder Richard Hurst is the present pastor.
