CHURCH:
PROVIDENCE (BERTRAND)(1898)
Providence Church was organized near the Union School house, seven miles north and one mile west of Bertrand, on July 2, 1898, with five members, viz., Jacob Bruce, Robert Rowland, F. O. Long, Annie Long, and J. M. Castleberry. The presbytery was composed of Elders James H. Ring, moderator, Joel Hammonds, James H. Hammonds, and Isaiah Waggoner, and Deacon Joseph Bruce, clerk. Elder Joel Hammonds was chosen as pastor of the church, and F. O. Long as clerk.
