Sardis Church was organized in about 1883 or 1884, at the Walker School House, with eleven charter members, viz., O. R. Jaco, N. Jaco, Lee Cash, Rebecca Cash, James Cash, Marinda Shoemaker, F. M. West, Anna E. West, W. J. Sims, Zerilda Sims, and G. P. Medlin. The presbytery was composed of Elder S. W. Sears, moderator, and Elder J. E. Goodson, Jr., clerk, and other council. Most of the members came from West Union and Hickory Grove churches.
