GRACE (LYON PARK)(ARLINGTON)

A congregation met at 10 a.m., December 30, 1934, at Lyon Park Community Hall, Lyon Park, Virginia, and after singing, Elder A. L. Harrison led in prayer, and Elder R. H. Pittman preached, "Upon this rock I will build my church." A presbytery was then organized, composed of Elders A. L. Harrison, J. E. L. Alderton, T. W. Alderton, A. J. Garland, R. H. Pittman, B. H. Seekford, Lic. Smith Compton, and Percy Dalton, and Deacons W. W. Whittemore, L. T. Utz, A. J. Kincheloe, C. L. Messick, O. P. Compton, Kirk Alderton, Frank Payne, Herman Alderton, W. G. Iden, L. F. Alexander, and L. R. Hickerson. The charter members were dismissed from the Washington (Petworth) Church, viz., Roberta Newton, V. H. Shepherd, Pearl Long, Mary E. Hilton, Charles D. Painter, William A. Long, Henry H. Hilton; and from Bethel Church, viz., James Iden, and Bessie Iden. Two others joined during the first conference meeting. Elder A. J. Garland was chosen as the first pastor.
