Fellowship With the Father and Son.

"And truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ."
Fellowship implies an equality of associates, and signifies a close union and intercourse between them. That depraved creatures should be exalted to fellowship with the Creator is most marvelous. He, in whose sight the heavens are impure, exalts sinful mortals, who are much more abominable and filthy, to a state of companionship with himself, and recognizes them as children of his own household! Jesus, who thought it not robbery to be equal with God, is not ashamed to call them brethren! The Holy Spirit condescends to dwell in them, and to make intercession for them with groanings that cannot be uttered! Those who trust in themselves that they are righteous may think that all this is due them because of their obedience, but they who have learned the plague of their own hearts are astonished at the thought that such a thing can be. The greatest wisdom of man, had it been ten thousand times as great, could never have formed a plan by which such a fellowship could be obtained.

To bring human beings into this fellowship it was necessary to unite humanity and divinity. This was done in the person of Jesus Christ the Son. He was truly a man, and yet all the fullness of the Godhead dwelt bodily in him. He was truly God, but was made flesh and dwelt among us. Divinity was thus clothed with the habiliments of humanity and became an inhabitant of earth. He, who made all things, who filled immensity, became one of an innumerable race, all of which were to him as the drop of a bucket and the small dust of the balance. "O the depth of the riches, both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!"
