Penitential Pleadings.

O Saviour dear, I come to thee,
Admit me now I pray;
Oppressed with guilt to thee I flee,
O turn me not away.

If thou receive me not I know
I must forever die;
For I have no where else to go,
To pour my feeble cry.

My crimes are great I do confess,
I plead no works of mine;
I am forever lost unless
I'm saved by grace divine.

Oh! wilt thou, canst thou, Lord, forgive
A sinner vile as me,
And cause my guilty soul to live
In perfect peace with thee?

I know if thou shouldst cast away
My guilty soul to hell,
Thou wouldst be just I still must say,
For I deserve it well

But if in mercy thou shouldst raise
My soul to dwell with thee,
Thy name alone shall have the praise,
For none belongs to me.
