LEBANON (1854)

Lebanon Church was organized May 21, 1854, with thirteen charter members, viz., William Gibson, Sarah Gibson, Miles M. Merritt, Elizabeth T. Merritt, J. D. Sansing, Jane A. Sansing, L. C. C. Adkins, Jency Adkins, George Shaw, Eliza Ann Shaw, J. W. Taylor, Mary Lewis, and Freeman Allen. The presbytery was composed of Elders T. J. Foster and J. M. C. Robertson.

In June 1855 the church appointed W. M. Merritt, William Gibson, F. Allen, and W. Taylor, and G. W. Shaw, a committee to select a location to build a house of worship and to draw a draft of said house and report at the next conference. In July 1855 the church selected a building place by ballot, near the residence of John Shaw. Appointed J. Taylor, G. Shaw, and W. M. Merritt a building committee.

In June 1877, the church appointed R. F. Simms, A. W. Barrow, James Gibson, H. C. Lawson, and J. B. Shaw and their successors in office as trustees for the church to receive the deeds to the lands donated and purchased by the church for a building site.

In 1856 the church voted to unite with the Ouachita Association; later, the South Ouachita, and Louisiana Associations.
