BETHEL (PAVO)(1826)

Bethel Church was organized September 26, 1826. The presbytery was composed of Elders Benjamin manning, Matthew Albritton, and Henry Melton, with Deacon William A. Knight. The charter members were Elder Melthus Thigpen and wife Sarah, Archibald Strickland and wife Luander, and Henry C. Tucker and wife Sarah. Elder Thigpen served as pastor until 1828, when Elder Matthew Albritton was chosen. Later pastors included Elder Melthus Thigpen, J. E. W. Smith, John Edmondson, Henry C. Tucker, H. G. Fuller, E. J. Williams, M. J. Alderman, J. H. Johnson, Aron Parrish, R. H. Barwick, Ben P. Lovette, A. Chitty, J. W. Gardner, J. T. Strawder, W. H. Godwin, L. Johnson, A. L. Pierce, J. Wesley Rodgers, Spence E. Mercer, W. A. Suggs, Hugh Lewis, Cleve A. Blanton, and Leon Wiggins.
